From Matsumoto/Nagano: Nakasendo Trail Walking Tour
Although you can visit Magome and Tsumago from Nagano and Matsumoto by train and bus, it is usually very time consuming. This route is usually walked from Magome to Tsumago. This is because Magome is at a higher elevation and there are many gentle descents toward Tsumago. The distance between Magome and Tsumago is 7 km, and it takes about 3 hours to walk if the weather is fine.
